FAQ

While they’re similarly priced, laminate and vinyl flooring have a few key differences. First, vinyl is a fully synthetic material. Laminate, on the other hand, integrates a fiberboard core and compressed wood. Both options are cost-efficient and easy to clean, but vinyl is water-resistant, making it better suited for high-moisture areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

The lifespan of laminate floors can vary, depending on the manufacturer that you pick. But, as a general rule, laminate can last twenty to thirty years. Of course, this also depends on how the floors are treated, how often they’re cleaned, and where they’re placed in your home.

Since laminate flooring is made of natural materials, it doesn’t have the same level of water resistance that other materials offer. When it becomes wet or is exposed to prolonged dampness, laminate flooring can warp, crack, or become damaged. For this reason, we recommend using vinyl flooring in rooms that are exposed to higher levels of moisture.

For the most part, cleaning your laminate floors is no more challenging than cleaning any other type of flooring. We recommend that you sweep or vacuum every couple weeks. If you have pets, children, or an unusually large household, you may want to clean your floors weekly. In addition to this, you’ll want to avoid abrasive cleaning products or products that rely on large amounts of water.

While laminate flooring is durable, it can still suffer damage. In most cases, small discolorations, cuts, or scratches can be repaired with readily available repair paste or touch-up kits. But, if it’s suffered major damage, it’s still possible to repair your floors by removing and replacing the damaged boards.

It’s always a good idea to have a few extra boards. In the event that your floor is damaged, extra boards will make repairs much, much easier. But, since laminate flooring doesn’t fade or change color as easily as hardwood, you may not need as many extras.
